Bleach Your Shirts for a Trendy Style
Anyone else ready for sweater weather?
Or maybe just not feeling like you walked into a sauna every time you walk outside? I know I can’t be the only one. Summer can be brutal and I’m so ready to break out the long sleeves and cozy sweatshirts.
Fall is my favorite time of year and includes some of the best holiday celebrations. I will show you how to “Stay Spooky” with these fun bleached long sleeves and crewnecks in just a few simple steps. I like to add fun vinyl decals and the best part is you can add whatever you’d like that fits your style.
I think the black is perfect for your trendy fall look just in time for Halloween!

Pro tip: Black will never bleach white unless it’s heathered. It will turn orange or rust-colored or if left in the sun will turn more gray. The heathered colors will always bleach a little better. If you want to stop the bleaching process and can’t wash right away, spray some hydrogen peroxide on it before washing.
What you’ll need:
- 100% cotton shirt or sweatshirt
- Gloves (this will protect your hands as bleach is a harsh chemical and can burn you if left on skin for too long)
- Bleach (you can dilute it or just use straight bleach. I like to dilute it just a little with water)
- Spray bottle (this one just depends on the method you prefer. I used an old Clorox bottle)
- Sunlight

Directions for a scrunch method:
1. Lay the shirt down on grass or concrete and scrunch up several areas of the shirt
2. Spray beach directly onto shirt all over. (You can add your desired amount depending on how you want your shirt to look) If you want back bleached as well, flip over and repeat the process.

3. Lay the shirt out flat and let sit in the sun until the desired color is reached. (If the back is bleached, leave each side in the sun until the desired color is reached)
4. Wash immediately on cold. (Be careful not to wash with anything you may not want to get bleach on. I just washed the sweatshirts together with nothing else)
5. Dry as normal
6. Cut out and weed vinyl decal with Cricut on Siser Easyweed HTV. Don’t forget to mirror your image! (I ordered my decals off of Etsy as SVG files)

7. Press for 30 seconds at 350 degrees
8. Enjoy your beautiful creation!
Directions for flat method:
1. Lay the shirt out flat on the ground or hang it on the back of a chair.

2. Spray until you get desired design. (I poured some in places to give it a drip look) If you want the back bleached as well, flip over and repeat the process.
3. Leave in the sun until the desired color is reached. (If the back is bleached, leave each side in the sun until the desired color is reached)

4. Wash immediately on cold. (Be careful not to wash with anything you may not want to get bleach on. I just washed the sweatshirts together with nothing else)
