Balloon Garland You Can Make Yourself for Cheap
Have you seen those stunning balloon garlands on display at events and always wondered how much they paid to have someone make it? I know I sure have! Turns out, they cost a pretty penny to pay someone else to make it.
I gasped at the price to be completely honest, and knew there was no way I could spend that for just one day! It was over $200 just for a basic one! *que the shocked face* 🤯
I knew there had to be a way to do one myself for my son’s upcoming party, without spending a fortune. It ended up being way easier than expected, and didn’t cost me much at all! Let me show you how.
After a little research I discovered all it would take was a few clicks on Amazon and a trip to Walmart. Of course I had to wait a few days before my order was delivered, but let me tell you, it was worth the wait…seriously.
This cool new little tool I bought on Amazon was something I wish I would’ve bought years ago, and I wholeheartedly mean that. I had seen people talking about it online and raving about it, and truthfully had it sitting in my cart for forever but for some reason just couldn’t pull the trigger.
Speaking from experience, don’t wait! Buy it now! Seriously, it was the best $25 I’ve ever spent(for balloon related items LOL).
I am an avid party planner and this is a tool I could’ve used years ago and wish I would’ve had it for so many parties. I will 100% recommend it from now on because it saved me SO much time. This tiny but mighty thing is a LIFESAVER. I loathe blowing balloons up, and always feel like I’m going to pass out after about 2, but this saves me all of the headache (and lungache).
Garland Tape
Another amazing and cheap liquid gold is this balloon garland tape. It literally does all the hard work for you and makes creating this beautiful masterpiece almost effortless. It saved me so much time and was worth every bit of the $2 I spent on it.

The best part is, you can save it and reuse it for any future parties you host. I love saving money wherever I can and this is a great way!
You’ll need some sticky glue dots to attach the little balloons and any that don’t fit on the garland and those suckers hold on tight. They come in a roll and you’ll have plenty left over to last you for a few parties.
I ended up donating the entire balloon garland to my son’s kindergarten teacher a few weeks later for their end of the year graduation party. I couldn’t believe the balloons were still filled with air!
Assembly
I had a few different colors that I wanted to be on the garland and you can really add as many or as few as you’d like. I filled them all up to different sizes and just created the pattern as I went.
It will take a little trial and error at first, but once you get the hang of it, the process will go super quick. There’s really no right or wrong way to do it, just do what you think looks best!
You may want to air up the balloons before adding them so you know how many you’re working with, or do as I did and air them up as you go. Either way, do what is easiest for you.Â
Pro Tip:Â I left a few of the holes open before I started adding balloons and left a few at the end to make it easy to hang up with a tac.
You can make the garland or arch as big or as little as you’d like just depending on the space you are using. If you’re using the tape, you will have a max length of 16.4ft. If you need it longer, you may be able to find a longer one on Amazon to purchase.Â
Create a Backdrop
Follow these simple steps to create the perfect backdrop:
- Take your balloons and start with airing up about 20 of them in whatever colors you choose. Make sure you don’t do them all the same size but vary the sizes as you go.
- Skipping a few holes in the beginning, start attaching balloons onto the balloon tape, alternating colors.
- Take glue dots and attach a few to each balloon and fill in gaps. Smaller ones work great for this step.
- If attaching to a wall, thumbtacks work great for securing your garland, or if you have an arch or something similar, fishing line is a great option and easy to hide.
- You can always fill in gaps you missed with glue dots after you hang, so don’t be afraid if you miss a few before securing.
- After your event is over, simply pop the balloons and save the balloon tape, or you can always try and sell it if you want to make a few extra dollars. The balloons can last up to a few weeks!
And there you have it, a beautiful masterpiece that your guests will ooo and ahh over! It makes any backdrop stand out and really brings all your decorations together. It’s a simple and cheap option but will add such a stunning focal point!
Hope this helps you create a beautiful balloon garland, without breaking the bank for many parties to come.
